Personally, this attitude the only South Carolina matters, or whatever town you're from seems like a kind of self-centredness that's what too common in the country. She isn't stupid. She just didn't care about anything outside her bubble, and she is not alone. People act as if only their own bubble matters, and the result is what you see.
