i get them all the time. 1. fold tissues and stop the blood from going everywhere (if you hold it too tightly to the nose you may restart it when changing tissues) 2. lean forward (blood tastes nasty) 3. periodically change tissues (avoid oversaturation and see when it stops) 4. go to bathroom and gently blow your nose when it stops (this may seem counterproductive but it lets you breath through that nostril) 5. put a wad of tissues in your pocket in case it restarts later.

i know a way to stop a nosebleed if its super big like mine was. Take abunch of tissues and pile them. Then fold in half and cover your nose with it and pinch the nose bone, not the nostrils

lol and i always have nose bleeds way worse than this! i don't know why though and i am afraid of nosebleeds now ever since i had one for like an hour in the middle of the night and it just never stopped bleeding but we didn't call anyone or anything and i pinched my nose and put ice on it and everything but i finallly fainted : (

Sorry, but never lay your head backwards. The blood can trickle into the lungs and cause more complications than you are ready to deal with. The patient must lean forward, pinching the nose and wait for the blood clots to form. some patients can lose up to half a litre of blood before the nose bleed has stopped, think about where that blood might flow if the patient is leaning backwards.

Neck wounds are way different from limb wounds. You apply pressure to the wounded area with a large dressing while continuously monitoring the patient to make sure s/he doesn't have an air embolism. If a person's neck is bleeding bad enough to require a pressure bandage, that person is in critical condition.--Vicki, Paramedic

You should leave it in, and they already have a video about impaled objects. It's called 'First Aid for Penetration Wounds.' I'm an EMT, that's how I know you should leave it in, but the video explains it better than I. I put these videos in my play list for continuing education, so my memory always stays sharp. Especially since I watch them every day.

When I cut my arm in a car accident, the ER nurse kept taking off the bandage just to look at the wound. I'm glad I didn't know about blood clots being destroyed, or I would have wondered why she was doing it. I didn't last long as a conscious patient anyway. I went into heart failure and, after they revived me, I fell into a coma and stayed that way for 5 days.

I wish they'd do a video explaining what to do when you see someone vomiting blood. That's what happened to my sister when she was 7 and I was 13. Other than calling the ambulance, we didn't know what to do. On her way to placing the call, my mom knocked over a chair, a plant and our decorative butter churn. I OTOH was transfixed in horror, watching more blood than I'd ever seen pour from my sister's mouth and nose. To this day, I remember every detail of that night.

At 1:34 He states that it is a decent dressing. Its technically a bandage. The dressing is the soft under part which is applied to the wound directly. The bandage is the part he is showing. Okay, I live in America and from my experience a majority of so called "health care professionals" suck. My mother went to 21 doctors in total before finally being diagnosed with Lyme Disease. Early treatment would have meant 28 days of Doxycycline (an antibiotic). However, because it took so long for her to get diagnosed, she is now on multiple antibiotics for the next 3 years!! Not only that, but it was extremely difficult for her to find a Lyme Literate doctor here in America.

Most people are also allergic to latex, so nitrile gloves are better. But if you don't need a triangular bandage then you don't need heavy duty bloodsponges. Antihistamine is handy as a first response for Anaphylactic Shock. Aspirin for Heart Attacks & Strokes, Wound Closure Strips (So Compact and Thin there's no way this is un-needed, especially if you really need stitches.

Bleeding can be stopped with towels, shirts, clothing, paper towels, etc. If your in the city, where service is available you don't need a large first aid kit and you don't need to focus it all on bleeding like nutnfancy did. He did it specifically for working with sharp knifes and firearms. Saying you don't need a triangular bandage is like saying a person with a broken leg will not have to be evacuated in the backcountry.

Those standard kits really blows. Best type of kit is to make one yourself. mostly your kit must be aimed at stopping blood! Sterilization and cleaning second. Dressing as last. The very second you stop breathing they stop asking questions. It happened to me in 2002. They were asking questions and my breathing suddenly got radically worse. He stopped asking questions and put the oxygen on me. But my throat closed completely, and they had to stick a needle in my neck and breathe straight into my lungs. I have no memory of the needle. The ER doctor told me about it.

Nice video to see how it's done in real life. Most people think paramedics just open their box of drugs and inject people like they do on that new show Trauma. They don't realize that a lot of "assessment" has to happen before drugs can be given. This is a pretty clear cut case of an allergic reaction, but most calls are not so obvious (i.e. new onset food allergies).

Well yes I'm not saying only use ventolin, only that it kept my airways open long enough for the ambos to get there. And seeing as we had no EpiPen, salbutamol was all we had. With St John Ambulance (first aid, not paramedics) we're taught that if you or the pt has no EpiPen obviously rest and reassure them, but we are taught to use salbutamol. I guess because you can't OD on an inhaler and salbutamol either will help or it won't, it won't make it worse.

Bronchodilators stimulate the sympathetic nervous system by causing the bronchioles in the lungs to dilate, so air can pass through them. They classify medications by groups: cardiac, respiratory, psychiatric, antibiotc, etc. Each group always has several choices in it. Since I'm only a paramedic, not a pharmacist, I'm not sure what the detailed differences are. I know that, according to what a doctor told me, medication production is too inexact for one medicine to work on all people.

if they have ventolin, you can try that as well. it sounds stupid but both ventolin and epinephrine are bronchodilators. Ventolin saved my life when I was about 3.
